February is just around the corner which means Valentine’s Day is almost here. Create this sweet Valentine’s Day Keepsake from your little munchkin. I made this hack by buying a Christmas Handprint Keepsake Kit from Target after the holidays.
While looking through the clearance aisle at Target after the holidays, I found this cute kit that originally cost $10. Really, Target?? Well, after the holidays and more than 75% off, I paid a whopping $2.00. SCORE!
Note: This kit came with pre-made air-dry clay. If you can’t find this kit, you can purchase air-dry clay at any craft store.
I knew I wanted to make Dahlia’s handprint keepsake and what a perfect way to do it. No need to make salt dough and more importantly, no big ‘ol mess in the kitchen. It’s hard enough to do things with the baby! This kit makes it so much easier and you save a lot of time too! I didn’t use any of the other items the kit came with but you definitely can.
Here’s how I Made Mine in 10 Easy Sets:
1. Open the box and take out the package of air-dry clay
2. Shape the clay into a ball (don’t mind Bella in the background trying to eat the box ;))
3. Flatten clay into any shape you choose.
I did a circle, but a heart can also be done for Valentine’s Day
4. Baby Handprint Time!
This is the fun part. Press baby’s hand firmly into the air-clay and make sure it’s deep enough into the clay. (You can also do foot if you like instead)
5. Create hole for hanging
Next, take a straw and push it all the way through on the top of your keepsake. Make sure there’s enough space from the top to be able to hang it.
6. Stamp First Name (or whatever you choose)
I chose to stamp in Dahlia’s name. You can stamp whatever you’d like. I bought these stamps at Target as well in the dollar bin section a while ago. Another SCORE!
Finished…
7. Add Decor
Use whatever you want to add texture to the keepsake. I chose to add leftover rhinestones I had lying around from a previous project. Also, the kit comes with a few things if you want to add that in as well.
Let dry overnight…
8. Paint!
I had done this project up to this point and then my niece, Jennalyn, came to visit. I asked her if she wanted to paint and she said, “YES!” So, I let her complete this next step. She decided to paint the name darker pink and her hand a lighter pink.
9. Add Ribbon
Lastly, I had added silver ribbon at the top for hanging.
10. Enjoy!
You’re finished! This keepsake would make any Valentine’s heart melt 🙂 You can write a note with pen on the backside of this keepsake for your sweetie and I’m sure it’ll be a hit!
