“Make it” Monday:  DIY Homemade Play Dough

Yesterday, we went to Play Haven in San Francisco for a play date.  It’s an awesome play space for kids that has everything — a rock climbing wall, an art space, a separate infant area, an outdoor space, snacks and a birthday area among other things.

The one thing Dahlia kept going back to was the play dough area and since we didn’t have much planned for the rest of the afternoon, I knew it was a perfect day to make some play dough at home!

I quickly looked up a recipe and was surprised that I had most of the ingredients at home and really only had to buy cream of tartar.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups of flour
  • 1/2 cup of salt
  • 2 tsp. of cream of tartar
  • 2 Tbsp. of oil (any)
  • 1 cup of boiling water
  • Food coloring (optional)

Directions:

1.  Combine all dry ingredient in bowl

2.  Add boiling water (with help of mommy of course)

3.  Add food coloring of choice (Dahlia chose pink)

4.  Mix & Knead

5.  Continue to knead until smooth

6.  Have fun & enjoy!

Dahlia has been having so much fun with her play dough.  I bought these Martha Stewart alphabet cookie cutters from a neighbor’s garage sale last week which have come in very handy!

Happy Making!
