Make it Monday: Super Simple DIY  Donut Coasters

Who doesn’t love a donut? ?

and who doesn’t love Dahlia in donut pjs?

In our house, I sometimes get Dahlia to do crafts to divert her attention especially if I feel a meltdown or a terrible two tantrum coming on.  And last week, I did just that.

I took home some ideas from the remake festival I went to a couple weeks ago and felt like I could do them at home with Dahlia.  So, we made these super simple felt donut coasters and afterward, she was a happy camper that she got to use glue and glitter for the first time, which dad was super excited about. ?

Here’s what we used:

  • Brown & Colored Felt (we used pink)
  • Something Circular to Trace
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Glitter
  • Tray or cookie sheet to collect glitter

And here’s what we did:

First, we used our circular shaped item and traced it onto the felt, both brown and pink.  You also want to make sure a glass can fit on top because it is a coaster after all.

Then, we cut out the circles and also took the colored felt and cut a hole on the inside  of it. We then cut the exterior of the donut frosting in a wavy pattern. It doesn’t have to be perfect either.

Next, we glued the ‘frosting’ onto the brown donut circle.

We then added fun dots of glue onto the frosting (or on the donut as Dahlia did ☺️).

Glitter time! Use a tray or cookie pan when using glitter because it’s obvious it could get everywhere especially in the hands of a two-year-old.

Shake the excess glitter off and voila!

can’t you feel the excitemement?

Happy Making!
