Mise may be one of the newest kids on the food delivery scene here in the SF Bay Area, but their business philosophy and their dishes are a complete stand out.  I had the opportunity to help Mise in their first week live and though there were a few hiccups, the food more than made up for it and I know they will only get better from here.  They also gave me a complimentary dessert for my first order as well as a nice handwritten note 🙂  Kudos, Mise!

What is Mise?

Mise is an online market and delivery service for the best dishes from local professional chefs.

Every dish is always made in small batches, and there’s a face and a story behind each one.  They do free weekly delivery to the San Francisco Bay Area, including San Jose & the Peninsula.

Mise en place (pronounced “meezon plahs”) is a French culinary term that means arrangement. It refers to the process by which a chef organizes each ingredient ahead of time in order to simplify the cooking process. We want to help you not only arrange the little things in your life, but also to enjoy them as well. No more time wasted on meal planning or rushing home after work to cook.

Their belief is that you should always spend your free time doing the things you love with the people you care about – not in a kitchen poring over recipes (if cooking’s not your thing) or eating processed convenience food.

How it Works?

1.  You order from their marketplace online.

Load up your cart with all the dishes you’ve been eyeing for the upcoming week, and checkout by Thursday at noon! They’ll send you an email receipt with all the details.

2.  You get a confirmation text the day before delivery.

They’ll text you your order confirmation on Friday, the day before delivery. Let them know if you have special delivery instructions (buzzers, intercoms, concierge, no doorbell/call upon arrival, door wedges, etc.), so they can get to you as smoothly as possible!

I told them I may not be present to receive the food and even though I was home, there was still an ice pack to keep my food fresh.

TIP:  Order as many dishes as you need by Thursday at 12:00PM to set yourself up for the week. We deliver your order to you free of charge, and with no tip required, the following Saturday morning from 8:00AM-1:00PM. A minimum of 2 dishes is needed for delivery.

3.  Wait for your food. 🙂

It’s that simple!  Be sure you’re home or at the office for the time window they’ve texted you.

TIP:  Sleeping in or out of the house on Saturday? No worries! They’ll drop off your order with some ice and text you after. If you’ll be out for most of the day, you can leave them a cooler just to be safe. They’ll place your order in the cooler with ice.

Also, you do not need to tip the delivery person because the prices already include tips.

4.  Reheat food and/or prep.

The dishes arrive chilled and never frozen for ultimate freshness.  Each dish comes with its own simple oven and microwave reheating instructions.  These are real meals with no added preservatives straight from local chefs, ready to enjoy in minutes & they tasted that way too.

Also, on the food boxes, they tell you which chef prepared it!

TIP:  Remember to look at serving sizes as well.  Most things might appear more pricey, but that may be because it serves 2-3 people.  That was the case for most of the items I ordered.

5.  Enjoy!

The food was great!  Mise gives us another great option for dinner as we are both working parents and love to eat good food.  The food is better than some restaurants & feels like home-cooking.  We will definitely be ordering from them again.

Here’s what we ordered:

  • Pupusas Revueltas

The pupusas were so good & they were my favorite.  They were extremely authentic and Dahlia like them as well & kept asking for more!  The slaw was a perfect crunchy compliment and the hot sauce was tangy & not too hot, yum!~

  • Guava Pandebonos

The pandebonos were soft, chewy and delicious.  What more could you ask for?!  This bread is similar to the Brazilian cheese bread if you’ve ever had some.  The guava was also a great addition (one of my favorite fruits) & was oozing out of the pandebonos when you ate through it.  There were about 6 that came in the order and I had to stop myself from trying to eat all of them so I shared with my husband! 🙂

  • Cuban Style Carnitas

Ok, so I’ll have to admit that this dish doesn’t really photograph well BUT it tasted ten times better than it looks.  The crepe was seasoned perfectly and the carnitas was smoky & delicious.  The potatoes were a good compliment to the crepe as well.  This was a good portion size for 2 people.

  • Apple Tarte Tatin

The Apple Tarte Tatin was a complimentary dessert I was given for my first order.  This was a single serving size and it didn’t matter because my husband doesn’t really like desserts so I had the whole thing to myself!  YES!  It had just the right amount of sweetness and was also felt very savory at the same time.

All in all, definitely give Mise a try and keep them in mind the next time you’re craving authentic “Bay Area” food & don’t want to cook at home!  We love this option because we are working parents and crave that home cooked meal without having to cook.  It also feels like we get food from the “City” delivered right to our door without having to go to the City, which is nice too.  So, give them a try!

Enjoy & Eat Mise!
