Travel Tuesdays: 12 Beach/Pool Essentials for Baby

Beach1

Summer is in full effect so bring on the beaches and pools!   I wanted to make sure I had all the essentials for the beach/pool so I created this list of must haves for baby that you could use too! ENJOY!

  1. Snacks!  Don’t forget the snacks.  Dahlia loves Teethers from Happy Baby.  They are great because they come in 12 individual 2 packs so they travel well.  Also, don’t forget to bring  a cooler for any other fresh food items.
  2. Stay Hydrated!  Don’t forget water bottles, sippy cups or even milk.  Babies need to stay hydrated at all times especially under the sun.  We use the Nuby No Spill Soft Spout.  In addition to the sippy cup, I also brought a nursing cover for the beach/pool to nurse Dahlia & keep her hydrated.
  3. Stay Clean!  Bring diapers that are able to go into the water like the Little Swimmers or at Target I’ve seen reusable swim diapers.  Also, don’t forget regular diapers as well – the swimmer’s diapers are not a replacement for regular ones.
  4. Stay Protected!  Sunblock is an obvious item to bring, especially for babies.  I like using California Baby’s Super Sensitive No Fragrance Sunblock because it ‘s water resistant for 80 min., concentrated, tear-free and is a good physical barrier against the sun.
  5. Stay Afloat!  We learned from our Maui trip that Dahlia loves the water.  We reused her Speedo flotation device that will last up until she’s 2 years old!  While at the pool, we got a lot of compliments on it because it has the attached shade canopy too!
  6. Swim in Style!  Don’t forget to bring swim suits that cover the body a bit more.  Again, babies skin is sensitive to sun so it’s best to wear shirts like the one shown  above.  I bought this one at Target that also has sun protection.
  7. Stay Covered!  Bring a hat!  It’ll protect those little heads and faces from the sun.  I bought this super cute eyelet one from Old Navy that will go with any Summer outfit or bathing suit.
  8. Bring Shade!  Whether its a big umbrella or a tent, bring something that gives baby shade to hang out under instead of whining about how hot it is.  We saw these awesome oversized umbrellas at Sports Basement that are perfect for travel called Sport-Brella‘s.  They also have different sizes and colors to choose from as well.
  9. Sandals!  Protect babies’ feet at all times with flip flops or shoes (if they’ll let you).  When the sun isn’t too hot, this may be ideal if the sand or floor gets too hot for them.  I like the look of the Old Navy flip flops because they come in many colors, it’s cost efficient and they have ankle support with the strap in the back.
  10. Let ’em Play!  Whenever I go somewhere with baby, I usually bring a new toy to fit the environment.  What better way to introduce sand castle toys than the beach!
  11. Beach Bag with Function!  Remember to bring a bag that can also change into a blanket to lay on the beach or pool area.  Look at function more when looking for a new beach bag.
  12. Dry ’em up!  Lastly, bring a towel for baby.  Try to get a fun towel in case baby doesn’t want to get out.  It might distract them! 🙂
